Praia da Luz is a beach located 7 km from Lagos (Algarve, Portugal) in the village of Luz. Being a fishing village, it now has several tourist complexes for vacations.[1]

It is a vacation area that receives tourists of various nationalities (mainly Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and German) every year. Despite the concrete belt that continues to develop around it, the village retains some of its charm, especially on summer days when the beach is one of the most crowded

The beach itself is divided in two parts, one with fine white sand, characteristic of the Algarve region, and the other with rocks. The water is clean and transparent. The beach is qualified with a Blue Flag. The beach is accompanied by a promenade with benches, inviting for a break in front of the sea.

The medieval Church of Luz de Lagos, located in the village of Luz, was remodeled in 1521. During the 15th and 16th centuries it suffered several sacks which made it necessary to build protective walls around it. It was severely damaged during the 1755 Tsunami. Later, in 1874, its restoration was financed by contributions from local residents. In the 20th century, a violent storm and the 1969 earthquake caused more damage to the church, making it necessary to remodel it again.

Due to the existence of the beach, the town is visited by numerous tourists, Portuguese and foreigners, the latter being mainly of British origin.
